Child support is an essential part of your Child Custody, and Co-Parenting plan. In Connecticut both parents are legaly responsible for the maintenance of their children. Higher income parents will be responsible for a larger portion of that maintenance, but both parents are responsible.
In Connecticut, child support payments are determined by the State of Connecticut Child Support Guidelines. Calculating which parent will pay child support, and how much, is determined by filling out a child support guidelines worksheet. This worksheet is based on the obligation of both parents to contribute to the support of their children to the extent each parent is able.
Though this is not a complete list, the following child maintenance items must be discussed and agreed upon. Both parents incomes, medical insurance and dental insurance sources, other necessary insurances, child medical expenses, and child care expenses.
